Born and raised in London with roots in Somalia, Mariam has always had a passion for social justice. Fuelled by her passions and wanting to provoke meaningful change in society, she decided to study an undergraduate degree in Law before pursuing a LLM in International Law at SOAS University.
‘Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.’ - Arundhati Roy.
Mariam is We Belong’s resident booklover, revelling in the ability to both escape reality and expand her knowledge through the pages. Alongside her reading and seasonal cycling (you won’t find her cycling in the rain!), Mariam has been very active in her local community, whilst also gaining experience in legal casework and policy work at other non-profits.
Joining We Belong in 2022, Mariam’s greatest achievement thus far has been setting up We Belong’s legal advice clinic that has helped young people and children of migrant backgrounds access the information and guidance needed to progress their home office applications.
